You have the right to remain silent as you enter the Farmiloe Building. Used in all three of Nolan's Batman trilogy films, the first floor of this Victorian landmark building represented the interior of Gotham City Police Station. Here is where James Gordon earnestly worked his way from sergeant to commissioner against the overflowing crime in Gotham and the spreading corruption within the police force itself. Striving to bring comfort to the city, Gotham's police station received a mixture of gratitude and condemnation from the city's residents, not excluding Bruce Wayne. In Batman Begins the young boy was brought to the police station after witnessing the death of his parents. The importance of this scene is noted when Gordon initiates his relationship with Bruce by offering reassurance to the stunned child, who was already fueling his hatred for crime. The Batman referenced this moment during the climax of The Dark Knight Rises, revealing his identity to James Gordon and his admiration that had grown through the years.

In The Dark Knight a more elaborate view of the station's interior is given with the inclusion of a jail cell and interrogation room. Both visited by The Joker who triggers The Batman's temper by comparing himself to the Caped Crusader exclaiming "You complete me." Director Nolan also wanted to use the exterior of the Farmiloe Building. Abandoned in 1999, after over a hundred years of operating as a merchant warehouse, the Farmiloe Building was reestablished as a popular filming location used in multiple films, T.V. series, and fashion design shows. Nolan revived the building's initial function and used the location for the Shanghai warehouse where Bruce Wayne was arrested during his leave of Gotham in Batman Begins.
