The Godfather I and II
11. Savoca, Messina
New York, NY
The town of Savoca is located on the eastern side of Sicily. Coppola wanted to capture a more romantic and gentle look for the Sicilian scenes, as opposed to the harsh New York scenes, so most of the filming was done during the day with different exposure levels and camera filters. Something to note when watching The Godfather is that Michael frequently wipes his nose with a handkerchief. This is because McCluskey's punch outside of the hospital damaged Michael's sinuses.
