Guardhouse

Jamestown
11. Guardhouse

The Virginia Company of London ordered the Virginia colonists to erect a storehouse, a church, and a guard house before they constructed any other buildings. The guard house, which was also called the court of guard, was an arsenal that held weaponry and armor so that the colonists could defend themselves from attacks by the Indians or Spanish. It was also the headquarters for the men who guarded the fort.
