Driving Tour (with optional walking portions) - The Wilderness Road initiative tells the story of Virginia's early settlement, and gives visitors the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of their early ancestors. The Wilderness Road sums up the mythical meaning of the exploits of Daniel Boone and of settlers who poured after him through Cumberland Gap on their way to the West. European immigrants who disembarked at Philadelphia traveled along the Great Road/Great Wagon Road south to Virginia. The Valley Pike, now US Route 11, follows the well-marked route of the Great Wagon Road.
