This is really where it all began, at least the exterior anyway. The façade of Presbyterian Hospital was used for the site where Walt receives his diagnosis of inoperable, stage four lung cancer. When Dr. Belknap informs Walt of his condition, Walt goes into a state of shock, hearing a ringing in his ears. When the doctor asks Walt if he understands, Walt simply repeats the doctor’s words back to him: “Best case scenario with chemo, I’ll live maybe another couple years.” Doctor Belknap is concerned by Walt’s seemingly calm reaction and even more disturbed by Walt’s obsession with a mustard stain on his doctor’s coat. Engrossed by the stain, Walter completely tunes out as the doctor explains terminal cancer to him, foreshadowing his now one-track mind. The hospital is also where Walt receives his chemo, which fights off the cancer enough for surgery. Loopy from the anesthesia just before going under the knife, Walt confirms Skyler’s suspicions that he has two cell phones, beginning the unraveling of their relationship. Ironically, Presbyterian Hospital is better known for its cardiology than its oncology, having received numerous awards in cardiology care.
