In Season 1 Episode 2 ('Guts') of The Walking Dead, the department store where Rick first meets the survivors and the rooftop scenes where Rick handcuffs Merle to a pipe were filmed in the Norfolk Southern building, 125 Spring St SW, Atlanta GA. This is the place where Rick first meets the survivors, including Lori, Carl, and Shane. Merle Dixon is in the group's company, and is angry that the walkers have caught on to their location. In order to keep the group safe, Rick handcuffs Merle to a pipe on the rooftop. The walkers are closing in, and the group escapes, leaving Merle cuffed to the pipe, after the key gets dropped down a drain. In episode three, the rescue team returns to the roof, only to find that Merle is gone. The only thing that remains is a hacksaw, blood, and his hand.
