Made in honor of the 16th President of the United States, the Lincoln Memorial stands as a symbol of unity, strength, and wisdom.  It is little wonder why the film-makers chose to incorporate this into their movie.  Open 24 hours a day, over six million people visit the monument annually.  An important structure in American history, it not only commemorates the President who passed the Emancipation Proclamation, but the steps of the monument played an important role for the Civil Rights movement as the location where Martin Luther King Jr. recited his "I Have a Dream" speech. A 2007 survey listed the Memorial at the 7th structure on the list of America's Favorite Architectural Structures by the American Institute of Architects.  The Exterior resembles a Greek Temple, and especially that of the Greek god, Zeus.  The actual statue of Lincoln is 100% American haven been made from Yule marble from Colorado. In Captain America, Steve Rogers is jogging around the memorial and reflecting pond before he is picked up by the Black Widow to help with a hostage situation in the Indian Ocean.  Other comic book movies filmed on location here include X-Men: First Class and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The Reflecting Pool is the largest of all reflecting pools in DC at 2,029 feet long, 167 feet wide and 18 inches deep.  Constructed between 1922 and 1923, it also has been the location of epic film scenes including one in Forrest Gump when Forrest sees an adult Jenny for the first time.
