On the western edge of Juno beach sat the village of Langrune-sur-Mer, this section of the Atlantic Wall was protected by casemate WN26 and it was 48 Royal Marine who were tasked with taking out this strong point, but after coming under heavy fire and losing two troops of men when two of the landing craft were sunk they decided to leave this position alone and it fell the following day. Delays in launching the floating DD tanks and confusion over landing the specialist armour led to chaos and mayhem on the beach as the Canadian North Shore Regiment and Royal Marines waded ashore.
