A drug dealer is escaping from the cops. He darts into what appears to be an empty skatepark. Graffiti decorates everything as he enters. In the distance the sirens of the cop cars can be heard. The man checks behind him once the sirens are gone. He shoves his hands into his pockets and starts walking through the park. Again, the man checks behind him when he hears a scuffle. Not seeing anyone he keeps walking through the park. Only to be tackled a few seconds later by an attacker. There’s one last shot of the man’s head on the concrete with a pool of blood around it before the screen goes black. There’s a tragic story surrounding the name of Leeside Skatepark. In 2005 there was a young, aspiring artist named Lee Matasi. He was also a skateboarder but was shot and killed in Gastown that same year. The long abandoned tunnel in East Vancouver soon became an informal place for free-form skating. It was also named in memory of Lee Matasi. There are about 12 hand-built obstacles located in the park. On occasion there are also events that take place in the tunnel. There is also quite a bit of graffiti decorating the walls of this informal skatepark.
