Formerly known as the Grand Ole Opry House, the impressive 2,362-seat Ryman Auditorium is also located on Fifth Avenue. It first opened its doors back in 1892 as the Union Gospel Tabernacle and later served as the setting for the Opry broadcasts from 1943 to 1974. A circle approximately five feet in size was cut from the Ryman's now famous stage and inlaid into the floor in the new Opry House, where it still exists today. The Auditorium was designated a National Historic Landmark back in 2001 and has been used as a filming location for movies including the Oscar-winning Coal Miner's Daughter and Clint Eastwood's Honkytonk Man. Each dressing room backstage is dedicated to a legendary figure, including one to the infamous Johnny Cash. The venue remains a popular attraction and is well worth a visit. There are plenty of photo opportunities and the chance to purchase souvenirs commemorating the history of the building through every era of its history.
