New York Ghosts
Fort TottenNew York Ghosts
8. Fort TottenConstruction started on Fort Totten in 1862, and in 1898, it was named after Brigadier General Joseph Gilbert Totten. It consists of a series of 100 buildings, and much of it has been overrun with vines, weeds, and foliage over the years due to lack of maintenance. However, in 2005, it became an official New York City Park, and people banded together to return it to its glory. Several of the buildings have been restored and are now in use. Tours are also offered to guests. There have been quite a few ghostly reports that come out of Fort Totten. Voices and conversations are heard when no one is around, apparitions are seen in the hallways, footsteps are heard, and doors open and close on their own. Much of the activity takes place in building 325. A guard/ex-Marine even reported to see two ghosts taunting him at his car. So what could cause the hauntings? The soccer field is said to be over an old Indian burial ground. Take a tour for yourself to see if you can come face-to-face with any ghostly apparitions.
