54 Pearl Street New York, NY 10004 Fraunces Tavern is one of the oldest buildings in the city. It was first opened in 1762 by Samuel Fraunces, and was initially known as Queen's Head Tavern. The building now houses a museum as well as a restaurant. It's said that in December 1783, George Washington bid his officers farewell in the Long Room at the tavern. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Despite its rich history, it also has one dotted with scandal and blood. In the 1700s, a man stabbed his adulterous wife to death before killing himself. On January 24, 1975, Fraunces Tavern was the scene of a bombing by the FALN where four businessmen lost their lives. It's due to these tragic events that many people believe the eatery to be haunted by restless souls. Some have reported hearing footsteps when no one is present, seeing and hearing doors opening and closing on their own, and encountering a slew of other unexplained happenings. Could the former couple or one of the businessmen still be wandering the halls of Fraunces Tavern? Pay a visit to judge for yourself.
