New York Ghosts
Gracie MansionNew York Ghosts
33. Gracie MansionGracie Mansion is the mayoral residence of New York City, but even that doesn't free it from being haunted. Archibald Gracie built the mansion in 1799 and used it as a country home. Due to financial troubles in 1823, Gracie sold the house to Joseph Foulke. It transferred hands again in 1857 to Noah Wheaton, and to the City of New York in 1896. In 1942, the mayor at the time, Fiorello H. La Giardia, was the first one to move in. So when did the ghost take up residency? The daughter of Oliver Wolcott and the daughter-in-law to Archibald Gracie, Elizabeth Stoughton Wolcott, died on June 24, 1819 from a stroke at Gracie Mansion just six years after getting married to William Gracie. She allegedly has haunted the building ever since. Credit Eden, Janine and Jim http://www.flickr.com/photos/edenpictures/3666231313/
