15 E 7th Street New York, NY 10003 McSorley's Old Ale House has been a staple in NYC since 1865, and it's said to be the oldest Irish pub in the city. The place is nothing fancy. There's sawdust on the floor, the dcor hasn't changed since the early 1900s, and you get two choices of beer-- McSorley's Dark Ale and McSorley's Light Ale. Regardless, that doesn't stop people from hanging out for a cold one, or ghosts hanging around for one reason or another. Despite its seemingly simple appearance, it has quite the haunted history. Rumor has it that the spirits of three McSorley children who died before 10 years of age still play together in one of the rooms. It's also believed that young soldiers who died in the war make an appearance maybe because they want to claim their wishbones. The story goes that the approximately two dozen dust-covered wishbones that hang from a gas lamp at McSorley's were left there by young World War I soldiers who had their last meal at the bar before deployment, and before leaving, they hung up the wishbones as their wish that they would return home safely one day. Pull up a seat at McSorley's Old Ale House, and you could find yourself sitting next to the ghost of a soldier who, tragically, never got to come home and claim their wishbone.
