3. Merchant's House Museum29 East Fourth Street New York, NY 10003 Built in 1832, this rowhouse, now known as the Merchant's House Museum, has remained virtually unchanged over the years. Seabury and Eliza Tredwell, along with their eight children, called the home their own from 1835 to 1933. The youngest daughter, Gertrude, died in the home in 1933 at the age of 93. The location became a museum in 1936, and over 2,000 of their original possessions remain at the location today. It's said to be the only family home in NYC to still remain fully intact. In 1965, it was deemed a National Historic Landmark, and in 1966, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Many have reported a slew of ghostly happenings at Merchant's House Museum, including doors opening and closing for no reason and the apparition of an elderly woman - believed to be Gertrude wearing a light colored dress - who appears and quickly disappears. There's also been reports of the scent of cigar smoke, cold spots, footsteps where there are no people, and various other strange happenings. All of the spooky events have led the Merchant's House Museum to do ghost tours for two weeks around Halloween. Many deem the location one of the most haunted spots in New York City.
