59 West 44th Street New York 10036 In 2012, the travel website, Oyster, named The Algonquin Hotel as the Best Haunted Hotel, and rightfully so. The famed hotel opened in 1902 and has since developed quite the reputation for elegance and history. The story goes that the hotel is haunted by the ghosts of some of 1920s literary and theatrical greats. While they are referred to as The Algonquin Round Table, they reportedly dubbed themselves "The Vicious Circle." Dorothy Parker, Alexander Woollcott, and George S. Kaufman were just three of the members of the brilliant group who later went on to found "The New Yorker" magazine. Thanks to its history, The Algonquin Hotel was deemed a literary landmark on July 5, 1996. Over the years, employees and guests have reported hearing footsteps in empty hallways in addition to seeing ghostly apparitions, especially though the lobby and dining room as well as walking down the halls. Some guests also report hearing strange noises, such as moving furniture, coming from their rooms, only to flip on the light and not see anyone there. One guest allegedly heard "I'm In The Mood For Love" while in the elevator, but was the only one out of three to hear the 1935 song. Could some of the best literary minds still be walking the halls of The Algonquin Hotel?
