When Miranda leaves Steve, she moves to the Lower East Side. This was once home to many lower-income families, especially Jewish immigrants. Since the mid-2000s, it has become very upscale, prompting The National Trust for Historic Preservation to dub it one of "America's Most Endangered Places". The famous Katz's deli and some Jewish shops remain, but the "Yiddish Broadway" that was once a staple of the neighborhood is practically gone.
