The next stop on our tour is another hotel. The Nob Hill Inn was constructed in 1907. The structure was built on top of the ashes of the building that once stood in its places. The 1906 earthquake and fires were devastating, destroying much of the city and killing nearly three thousand people. However, after the fires, the city had to rebuild, and from the ashes the single family house that is now the Nob Hill Inn was built. Recently, the Nob Hill Inn underwent renovations to restore the old charm of the original house for the guests to the hotel. The decor includes a strong vision of elegance with four poster and brass beds, armoires, and beautifully carved wooden furniture. There are twenty-one rooms in the hotel and at times there are not nearly enough rooms for the invisible guests that roam the hallways. The Nob Hill Inn is said to be home to more ghostly spirits than the twenty-one rooms in the hotel. After the renovations of the hotel, many guests started to report unexplainable happenings. Oftentimes, renovations uncover a restless spirit, however, in the case of the Nob Hill Inn, there have been as many as twenty-two restless spirits. There is not much known about the spirits except they have not been reported to be dangerous or angry. They are often characterized as tricksters, playing games on guests such as hiding personal belongings or playing with light switches or television remote controls. The Nob Hill Inn, sitting in a very prestigious neighborhood of San Francisco, does not advertise the presence of their ghosts like the Hotel Majestic or the Queen Anne's Hotel. Perhaps there are no ghosts, and perhaps the management is afraid the high number of ghosts will scare potential guests away.
