Welcome to Georgetown, Washington, DC’s oldest and most enigmatic neighborhood. Georgetown was founded in 1751, making it 40 years older than the District of Columbia itself, and the neighborhood contains more than its share of strange occurrences and historical oddities. As you walk through modern Georgetown, you are walking in the footsteps of some of America’s most interesting historical figures. On these streets have walked many generations America’s greatest leaders, from the time of the American Revolution, the earliest days of the Republic, the Civil War, and up to the modern era. Georgetown’s distinct character reflects its original founding as a portage and commercial hub on the Potomac River, and the city’s cultural identification as part of the American South. This tour will expose the more hidden side of this storied neighborhood, including the ghastly history of one of Wisconsin Avenue’s most popular storefronts, the dark legends behind Georgetown University’s Healy Hall, and the abundant ghost sightings within Washington DC’s oldest building.
