The 1863 Inn of Gettysburg has made some ghostly home improvements in the last couple of years! The recent haunted activity is hard to explain, but most likely has more to do with the blood-soaked ground it is built on than anything else. Inn proprietors will laughingly tell you of George, who is the sly ghost that supposedly plays pranks on guests and workers alike, high up on the 5th floor. Recent guests have come forward and reported lights flickering on and off in their rooms and in the hallway along with their TVs suddenly blaring with static and spooky white noise in the middle of the night. Personal items and furniture will be randomly moved around the room when guests or workers are away, or even while they're in the room with their backs turned! Most often, guests get locked out of their rooms on the 5th floor with no explanation; they find they cannot get back in without the assistance of staff who must reset their keys or unlock the door for them. The most bizarre eyewitness account is of a guest who stayed on the fifth floor in room 539, just a few days before Halloween. He had been on a ghost tour with his family, and even though they believed Gettysburg was haunted, he was still a skeptic. His beliefs changed overnight when his phone alarm would not stop buzzing, even though he hadn't set an alarm. Every time he woke up, he noticed the temperature in the room had changed. He finally realized the air conditioner wasn't shutting off and the temperature setting was adjusting itself. He left the room because he couldn't sleep but when he returned, his wife found a pair of underwear on the edge of the bed. Finally, as the family was leaving that next morning, George decided to play one last prank while the gentleman was in the bathroom. As the guest was washing his hands, he felt someone breathing on the back of his neck and giggling. He turned around but even though no one was there, a stall door opened and slammed shut he looked for the culprit but then realized he was alone. Photo Credit: www.1863innofgettysburg.com
