The Williamsburg Black History Experience highlights the bravery and resilience of black residents in 18th-century Williamsburg. Hear rarely-told stories of hope from escaped slaves and influential black leaders who instilled pride and endurance in their communities. You’ll learn about Gowan Pamphlet, an enslaved preacher who rose to become a beacon of hope despite overwhelming circumstances, and follow Ona Staines, a woman of color in the service of a President, who escaped slavery in Virginia to start a new life and inspired others to follow in her footsteps.
Learn how iconic historical locations like the Peyton Randolph House were viewed through the lens of those who served in them, and feel the warmth of hope and pride provided to the black community through the works of the Historic First Baptist Church and the Williamsburg Bray School.
