Nestled in the famed Mount Morris Park Historic District is the former home of Maya Angelou, located at 58 West 120th Street. The brownstone townhouse is clustered in a group of four brownstones sitting on a beautiful tree-lined street. The home was built in 1909, was purchased by Maya in 2002, and owned by her until her death in 2014. The Mount Morris Park Historic District was designated a landmark district in 1971, primarily because the late nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century brownstone townhouses and churches and familiar styling of the Gilded Age have remained almost unaltered and in nearly perfect original condition. We are now going to view Riverside Church on 121st Street. Make you way to 121st Street, make a right and go to 21 West 121st Street (Yellow school sign). Please be very careful, you will need to stand in the street and face west. The traffic on the block will be behind you as you stand in the street.
