Here, the army spent the winter months held up around Thurii and planning their spring offensive and a possible trek northwards, across the Alps to freedom. They didn't leave any major devastation here but did exact regular tributes and taxes to feed their hungry troops. The winter proved a good time for the slave alliance and they spent it re-arming and training their inexperienced but ever-growing force. The time also allowed the men to train up an effective cavalry unit that would give them an added element of surprise in the coming battles.
