Mount Hebron Cemetery has been Winchester's burying ground since inception of the town. With gravestones dating to the 1760's, the oldest sections of the cemetery were donated by Lord Fairfax to the congregations of the Lutheran and German Reformed Churches. After driving through the gatehouse, turn left to see the remaining limestone wall of the first Lutheran Church built by German settlers in 1764, and used as a barracks during the Revolutionary War. On the right side of the road is the grave of famous wagoneer and Revolutionary War hero, General Daniel Morgan. Take a short walk or drive around the park-like cemetery, read the tombstone inscriptions, and meet some of the people who lived and died in the Winchester during the Wilderness Road era.
