Painting the Rainbow: Seattle LGBTQ+ History Tour
A Point of Pride
Did you know Seattle was the home of the oldest continuously-operating gay bar in the country? The Double Header opened its doors in 1934 and didn’t close until 2015.
Washington was one of the first states to legalize gay marriage in 2012, but this was nowhere near the beginning of the state’s trailblazing LGBTQ+ support. Seattle was revered as a gay mecca as early as the 1960s, with an increasing population of community members and supporters making their way to the city.
With its rainbow-adorned décor and historic monuments of gay culture, the Capitol Hill neighborhood remains the epicenter of all things LGBTQ+ in Seattle.
“Amazing tour. Essential Seattle history for members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies alike.”
