Welcome to St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Construction on this church began in 1831 but because of hurricanes and a fire, the church has been rebuilt and reconstructed many times. The widow of John William Charles Fleming granted this land to the church on one condition. Her husband was buried on the property and she didn't want his remains to be disturbed. Ever. His remains are believed to remain on the property although the exact location is unknown. It is possible that during the many reconstructions on this property the grave of Fleming and others may have been disturbed or even covered up entirely. That would be enough to upset the spirits resting here. Behind the church is a small garden and graveyard that is often visited by a man dressed in 19th century clothing. He seems to have a sidekick. There is another spirit that seeks comfort here. He appears to be sea captain and seems very angry. He has scared many unsuspecting visitors to this peaceful plot. In the corner of the garden stands the statue of an angel. Shortly before dark, you may see a group of small children huddled at the base of the statue. After dark, many people hear the faint laughter of children. The ghosts of older children visit this garden too. They died in a fire that was started by a priest when he discovered that his wife was having an affair with the church's deacon. He set the fire in the hopes of ending his wife's life. Instead, all of the children in a nearby school lost their innocent lives. That's not the end of spirits who you'll meet. The ghost of a man who was well known for expelling pirates from Key West roams this property and he's not very friendly. He has actually attacked visitors more than once and the local ghost tour companies dropped this location from their tour. For such a small piece of land, there sure are a lot of spirits roaming here. Stop by shortly before dusk and hang on to your seat. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.
