Welcome to the haunted La Concha. There are several spirits wandering this seven story hotel. Each of them has a story to tell. One New Year's Eve, a waiter was cleaning up on the 5th floor after a party. He loaded dirty glasses and dishes onto a wheeled cart and pushed it to the elevator. When the doors opened he backed in. Unfortunately, the elevator was having mechanical problems and the car had actually stopped one floor above him. The poor man backed into the empty elevator shaft and fell five floors to his death. Staff and guests alike see his spirit in the elevator. Others hear a muffled scream followed by a resounding crash. All of this activity is limited to the fifth floor. Thirteen people have jumped to their deaths from the observation deck on the roof. One of those was an attorney accused of embezzlement. He can still be seen pacing the rooftop, perhaps contemplating his next move. Another man threw back a glass of chardonnay before making his final swan dive from the roof. Since then, guests often experience their wine glasses being moved by an unseen hand. It seems that several guests checked into La Concha and stayed well beyond checkout.
