While the building is not visible from the road, this facility had its beginnings as the Winchester Fruit Research Laboratory. Experiments began in 1912 and by 1920,the lab was involved in the study of fertilizers, cultivation and spraying. The entire center covers 24,500 square feet including offices, lab, coolers and freezers, an environmental chamber and a greenhouse. The Center is of immeasurable help in advancing the apple and fruit industry in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
