5. Virginia Farm Market

Operating a roadside market since the early 1950’s, The Virginia Farm Market is a 4th generation family owned business. It is open from mid-April until the week after Thanksgiving, and features fresh fruits and other produce, as well as bakery items. A children’s play area, pet-watering station, and family picnic area are also available at no charge. Reverend John Chapman, the famous Johnny Appleseed, is said to have worked in this region for two seasons. He preached in schoolhouses, taverns and wherever people would listen to him. It is thought that his seed planting campaigns in this region helped to make small family orchards popular throughout the valley.
