The mysterious Rogue's Hollow is the proverbial ghost town; a nearly forgotten ruin in Wayne County, south of Doylestown, a modern development surrounds this inner region of the former town. Rogue's Hollow was a lawless place in its time, when a myriad of criminals would come here seeking shelter from the law. Like most areas in the 1920s, prohibition was more or less ignored. Rogue's Hollow is a ghost hunter's dream; a veritable sanctuary for all manner of spectral phenomenon, from monstrous snakes to ghostly miners. The place is dotted with several abandoned mines, down which the forgotten spirits of miners may be heard, still picking away at the rock. Mining picks have even been observed to move on their own. Perhaps one of the most notable sights is that of the Devil tree, found at the bottom of a steep hill. Stories are told of the demon that lives inside it, and of a headless horse, decapitated by one of its branches. Be warned: cars have been known to stall as they approach the tree. A reconstructed pre-Civil War mill can also be found in the Hollow. Some say that an owner from the 1920's hung himself in the original building, which might explain the number of strange apparitions said to have been seen in the area for years afterwards. Some photos of the mill capture the outline of an apparition of a hanging man. In the same location there are three other stories of a Cry Baby Bridge. The first story speaks of a young woman, abandoned by her lover and left with their young baby. Unsure of what to do, the mother in a fit of rage and confusion threw the baby down into the chilly waters below. A similar but equally melancholy story happened at the bridge, a few years later. A mysterious witch one day appeared in the City of Akron. Infatuated by a local married salesman, she assumed in what she thought was an innocent affair. However, she soon found herself pregnant, and the salesman, unwilling to abandon his wife for a witch, ended their relations. The witch faced scrutiny from the townspeople. They wanted to take away her baby. Upon the child's birth, the witch made a daring decision- she dropped the baby down from the bridge into the murky waters, hoping that he may survive. She had rather had taken the life of her own child than to have allowed the cruel society who shunned her raise him. The final story finds that on one dark winter night, a mother, father, and infant were returning home from a family visit when suddenly their vehicle slid across a patch of dry ice. The father, who was driving, over steered and lost control of the vehicle. It crashed over the bridge and the family plummeted to their death. The parents were killed upon impact; however the baby was ejected out of the car and landed on the river bank where she remained, dying of hypothermia. If you visit this bridge at night you can hear the squealing of the tires as it hits the ice, the blood- curdling screams of the family as they meet their demise, the faint sobbing of two mothers who gave up their children, the soft cries of three babies who spent the last hours of their lives orphaned.
