A Hollywood Journey
Amoeba MusicA Hollywood Journey
29. Amoeba MusicWith the screen comes song, and with song comes more history. Amoeba Music offers just that and plenty more. With independently owned stores in Hollywood, Berkley, and San Francisco, its locations are often unusually large and regularly stocked with over 100,000 CDs, vinyl records, and audio cassettes. Small collections of DVDs, VHS, Laserdisc, and Blu-ray have also been added to the collections. Founded by former employees of Rasputin Records, the largest independent chain of record stores in the extended San Francisco Bay area, Amoeba Music opened in Berkeley in 1990. This location was added in 2001 and opened with a stock of 250,000 titles, which placed the venue at the current largest independent music store in the world. This location became an instant Hollywood landmark.
