A Hollywood Journey
Pantages TheatreA Hollywood Journey
25. Pantages TheatreThis majestic Art Deco themed theatre opened in 1930 and was built by vaudeville producer and Greek immigrant Alexander Pantages as part of the Pantages Theatre Circuit. When the Pantages Theatre first opened in Hollywood, theatre programmed first-run movies alternated throughout the day and vaudeville acts were featured at night. This lasted two years until the strain of the Great Depression hit, and the theatre was forced to economize. It began operating primarily as a movie theatre with occasional live performances. The dazzling theatre seats 2,700 and hosted the Academy Awards throughout the 1950s. Modern large-scale Broadway musicals such as "Disney's The Lion King" and "Wicked" were presented here. The theatre underwent a $10 million upgrade and restoration in 2000. The theatre is a popular location to film movies, TV shows, music videos, and host concerts.
