C.C. Brown's Ice Cream ShopA Hollywood Journey
2. C.C. Brown's Ice Cream ShopC.C. Brown's Ice Cream Shop is the birthplace of the hot fudge sundae. Clarence Clifton Brown satisfied Hollywood's sweet tooth for nearly 70 years, serving his secret-recipe hot fudge confection dished out in pitchers. In 1906, this Ohio sweets maker brought his marble candy table out west and opened up shop in Downtown LA, and relocating again in 1928 to Hollywood Blvd. He fitted the place with horse-hair-upholstered booths and metal serving dishes to help keep the ice cream cold. In 1963, a chemist by the name of John Schumacher served dipped sundaes for the next three decades while raising his eight children, who did their homework in the booths, and eagerly helped serve customers. In 1996, this cold confectioner's dispensary closed its doors and became just another retail shop on Hollywood Blvd.
