8. Fairmount ApartmentsThe only remaining building from the Centennial Celebration of the 1905 Lewis and Clark celebration is the Fairmount Apartments. These seemingly-ordinary apartments used to be one of the most magnificent hotels in Portland. However, many people believe that Fairmount Apartments is now among the most haunted buildings of the city. Threatening, sinister spirits dwell in the lower floors, tormenting tenants deep into the night. This inconvenience makes getting an upstairs apartment more expensive and more difficult, but it is often necessary to avoid the most demonic beings that may roam through the rooms. Living in harmony with demons is no easy task, as several residents have learned. Demons, after all, are ruthless, inhuman, and mad; they are not like the ghosts and spirits that are nothing more than residual energy. Through the years, some of those living in the lower apartments have suspected that their family members were possessed by the cruel spirits. The most vulnerable, like children and the elderly, are among the common victims of possession. Several families have tried bringing in priests, exorcists, mediums, and paranormal investigators, but all to no avail and no change. The demons refuse to cooperate, keeping their secrets hidden away. Some of the resources brought in to help were even scared away, refusing to be on the premises another minute, which isn't exactly comforting to the hopeless residents. Renting a room from this property is, therefore, not recommended for the faint of heart or the easily influenced. The demons can sense nervousness, and they enjoy provoking those with fear in their souls. The wait-list, of course, is a lot longer for the higher-level apartments, but it is recommended to wait for one above the ground floor. Plus, the view is better upstairs anyway.
