Portland Ghosts
Oaks Amusement ParkPortland Ghosts
16. Oaks Amusement ParkIn 1905, the Oaks Amusement Park was built to celebrate the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition. The rides and attractions included a log flume, a darkened boat ride, a mirror maze, a funhouse, and a dance hall which attracted many famous acts. The park has been continuously operated for more than 100 years, making it one of the oldest surviving amusement parks in the United States. Throughout the park, a lone child is seen. When people think of ghosts, they generally imagine people that died a long time ago—not within their own lifetimes! The Oaks Park spirit is different. The boy, younger than ten, wears clothing reminiscent of the 1970s and often looks distraught. When people go to comfort him or alert the authorities, he disappears right before their eyes. What has kept this little boy here? Is he reliving happy memories, or is he stuck at Oaks Park for more sinister unknown reasons? [Photo: Tedder]
