The Godfather I and II
17. Calvary Cemetery
New York, NY
Located in Queens, Don Vito Corleone is buried and his funeral is filmed at the Calvary cemetery. Coppola wanted an extravagant funeral scene to counterpoint the wedding that in the film's beginning. This funeral included twenty funeral limos, 150 extras, and flowers that cost over $10,000. Note that Mama is chewing gum during the funeral. She did not think that she was in the camera view. The extravagant monuments at this cemetery are ideal for a Don Vito Corleone's funeral.
