The Corleone Family house is located on Staten Island. The house also makes an appearance in The Godfather: Part II, and is one of the main locations in the first film. This location is on a side street in Emerson Hill where one lucky family inhabits this house today. The Corleone House was used to portray the success of Don Vito Corleone. The house is on a street in a wooded area, demonstrating the privacy that is necessary for one of the most successful Dons in New York. The elaborate mansion provides the viewers with a feel of the amount of wealth Don Vito Corleone has accumulated since his start as a Mafioso. The house is just a few steps away from the Garden where his daughter Connie is married to Carlo. The Corleone home was actually constructed for the film to include two stories, a living room, dining room, full kitchen, study, foyer, and stairs that lead to the bedroom. An interesting fact about the opening scene is that the cat you see Don Corleone holding was a cat that was living at Filmway Studios. Something else to notice about this house is that the office that appears in the opening scene is the same office that Michael is standing in after he returns to America. The office appears different in the later scenes because they painted the walls, added a television, a new sofa, and installed wall-to-wall carpeting.
