The Godfather I and II
New York Eye and Ear InfirmaryThe Godfather I and II
8. New York Eye and Ear InfirmaryThe scenes where Don Corleone is in the hospital take place at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. The production team rented out two floors of the hospital. Coppola wanted to use the interior of the infirmary because of the eerie vibes the hospital emits. He believed that the scene should be somewhat like a Hitchcock scene, where you can sense that there is danger around every corner. Coppola used the empty corridors to heighten suspense for the audience. An interesting fact to note about this scene is that George Lucas helped Coppola with the empty corridors by filming after Coppola cut the scene. This provided Lucas and Coppola with extra film footage of empty hallways that help to create the hospital's eerie feeling.
