1. Genco Olive OilGenco Olive Oil, located on the lower East Side, makes a few appearances in the first movie, including the main scene when Vito is almost assassinated. This store, which also makes an appearance in The Godfather: Part II, is where Vito got his start. In order to capture the essence of the 1940s, the film crew created a store front specifically for these scenes. Today, you can still see the original decor, if you look past the new restaurant that has taken its place. 128 Mott Street in New York was an essential filming location for the movie. This location was used to portray the authentic side of New York and Little Italy. The Genco Olive Oil set was actually built in Filmways Studios, and later moved to the fourth floor of the old loft building. The crowd that observed the filming on Mott Street loved Marlon Brando, and the scene where Brando's character is almost assassinated had to be shot a number of times because the crowd would continue to gasp and applaud Brando's performance. Brando would always oblige the crowd and take a bow.
