The Godfather I and II
Louis' RestaurantThe Godfather I and II
9. Louis' RestaurantLouis' Restaurant was actually called Old Luna Restaurant. The restaurant is no longer in business, but a yarn store has taken its place. This is the restaurant where Michael kills Sollozzo and McCluskey. Francis Ford Coppola chose this location because of its blocked out windows and close proximity to the train. Coppola wanted to use a restaurant near a train so the scene would create a sequence that was frightening. He wanted the slowness and the deliberateness of the train to emphasize Michael's actions. Louis' restaurant is the location of one of the most iconic scenes in The Godfather where Al Pacino officially secured his job as Michael Corleone. Coppola's parents are actually the extras in the diner, and the restaurant owner and his wife play themselves. This scene also had the most special effects.
