The Battersea Power Station, overlooking the Thames River in London, is the location where Rachel Dawes spent her last moments. Believing The Batman would come for her, as was his intent, Rachel continued to encourage Harvey from the cleared out warehouse now filled with oil tanks. Purposefully switching the addresses of his two victims, The Joker mislead The Batman, who found Dent, and the police force, who were unable to reach Rachel in time. The interior and exterior of the abandoned building was used in the film to depict a turning point for both Harvey and The Batman. Encompassing twenty nine acres, the power station claims the title as the largest brick building in Europe. Becoming a popular landmark, the building has been featured in several films starting in 1936 and most notably displayed as the backdrop in the album cover for progressive rock band Pink Floyd's, Animals. Ceasing to produce electricity after 1983, the building still lit up the neighborhood with the spectacular explosion in the Dark Knight which ended Rachel's life. Despite the film crews advanced warnings, emergency services were flooded with panicked local calls reporting a terrorist attack on London's beloved landmark, but were reassured the 200 foot explosion was merely special effects for the Batman film.
