Watch your step and your back as you enter the bustle of the Metra Millennium Station. Transporting over 18,000 people in thirty second intervals makes this metro station one of the busiest in Chicago. Not surprising since it's under Millennium Park, which is a hot spot to visit year round for locals, tourists, and occasionally Batman! Showing off his new toy, The Batman bursts through the metro station at full speed in The Dark Knight. It's here that we are introduced to the Bat Pod, a two wheel masterpiece that shot forth from the wreckage of The Batman's Tumbler. A considerable upgrade since the first Batcycle which was a 1965 Harley Davidson, with a sidecar, used in the 1966 Batman TV series. Six Bat Pods were made for the film with 20 inch tires, creating the illusion that the Bat Pod ejects from the Tumbler's front end. The difficult construction of the Bat Pod required the exhaust to be ducted through the framework and steering to be done with the arms and shoulders instead of the wrists and forearms which are armored. These difficulties made the slick and curvy concourse a tricky maneuver for the drivers who trained for months mastering the unique steering. This brief shot was filmed as part of the gripping chase scene between The Batman and the Joker, in which The Batman makes his own short cut.
