Named for it's location at 71 East Wacker Street, Hotel 71 is also referred to as Wyndam Grand Chicago River Front. Well-known for it's penthouse ballroom, outlined with windows from the floor to ceiling, the hotel provides a panoramic view of Chicago's skyline bordering the Chicago river. Filmmaker Nolan transformed the 2100 square foot ballroom on the 39th floor into the luxurious bedroom of Bruce Wayne's transitory home. Capturing the full scenic view provided by the top floor of the hotel, Bruce reveals the hidden entrance in the wall of his makeshift bedroom that his guests mistake for a panic room. Bruce leaves his stunned guests and enters to portal leading to his Bat Bunker only to reappear to confront The Joker at the crashed fundraiser. Considering the hotel's prime location, the hotel's exterior was also used to represent the exterior of Wayne's penthouse. After a make over with computer generated imagery, the building was widened and the ballroom area was redesigned but the surrounding buildings are a giveaway for the original location.
