7. Old Chicago Post Office

The Chicago U.S. Post Office, also referred to as the Old Chicago's main post office, was featured in The Dark Knight as the interior and exterior of a Gotham National Bank branch. Built in 1921 the building was eventually rated worst in postal deliveries in 1966 after 10 million pieces of mail clogged the system for several days. In 1997 the building was vacated to be filled ten years later with the creation of Gotham National Bank. The building is featured in one of the opening scenes of The Dark Knight, in which the workings and menacing threat of Gotham's newest villain, the Joker, are conceptualized. With no definitive background and a maniacal mixture of a goofy prankster and a crazed mastermind, the Joker has been noted for being Batman's most fitting nemesis. Only the building's north side was used to depict the bank, despite the building standing nine stories tall and covering sixty acres of floor space. The eastern side was featured as Gotham City Police Station's exterior in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Following it's film making career, the building is currently undergoing renovations to become a shopping mall.
