Filming Locations of Harry Potter
Australia HouseFilming Locations of Harry Potter
4. Australia HouseWhen Harry enters Gringott's Bank for the first time, it's hard not to be impressed with the sheer opulence of the place with its chandeliers and marble columns. In reality, it is the Exhibition Hall of Australia House, an impressive building began in 1913 to house Australian High Commission, the country's diplomatic mission to England. An important landmark on London's Strand, it was designed by the Scottish architect Alexander Marshall Mackenzie. Unfortunately, it is not open to the public. Although construction began in 1913, World War I caused a delay in the project, and it officially opened in 1918. The building received substantial improvements in the run up to the 2012 Parlaympic Games, including a wheelchair-accessible lift, both external and internal ramps, auto-open/close doors and upgraded toilet facilities. Additional improvements to the acoustics were geared towards the hearing impaired in various parts of the building.
