In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Dumbledore takes Harry to a sea cave to find a horcrux. This was filmed in Ireland, at the foot of the foreboding Cliffs of Moher in the Burren region of County Clare. The cliffs form a UNESCO Geological Park and are one of the top attractions among visitors to Ireland. They rise 390 feet above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag's Head, reaching their highest point at 702 feet just north of O'Brien's Tower, located roughly at the midway point of the cliffs. The round stone tower was built in 1835 by Sir Cornelius O'Brien to impress his lady friends. Nearly one million visitors a year stand upon the cliffs, from which they can see the Aran Islands in Galway Bay, mountain ranges such as the Maumturks and Twelve Pins to the north in County Galway, and Loop Head peninsula and headland to the south. The cliffs are composed of Namurian shale and sandstone. The oldest rocks are located at the bottom of the cliffs with 300 million year-old channels cut by ancient rivers. 30,000 birds live on the cliffs, including more than 20 species of puffins, gulls, hawks, shags, guillemots, choughs and ravens.
