Hardwick HallFilming Locations of Harry Potter
29. Hardwick HallIn Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Severus Snape arrives to Malfoy Manor to meet with Voldemort and his evil band to inform them of Harry's whereabouts. The outside of the building is Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire, owned by the National Trust and open to the public. It is widely considered to be one of the most significant Elizabethan country houses in England. Hardwick Hall is a very early example of the English take on the Renaissance style of architecture that came into prominence when people decided it was no longer necessary to fortify personal homes. Set upon a hilltop between Chesterfield and Mansfield, it offers grand views of the surrounding Derbyshire countryside. It was built in the late 16th century for the Countess of Shewsbury, Bess of Hardwick. Her wealth was surpassed only by Queen Elizabeth I herself, and the opulent features of the house show it to great effect, including the extensive gardens and grounds surrounding the house.
