Queensway TunnelFilming Locations of Harry Potter
45. Queensway TunnelIn Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Hagrid dives into a tunnel. The exterior of this tunnel was the southern entrance to the Dartford Tunnel, but the interior shots were done hundreds of miles away in the Queensway Tunnel under the River Mersey, which connects Liverpool to Birkenhead. When it opened in 1934, Queensway tunnel was the longest underwater tunnel in the world, a title it held for the next 24 years. After years of complaints from motorists waiting in long lines for the Mersey Ferry, construction of the tunnel finally began in 1925 with a design provided by consulting engineer Sir Basil Mott. Construction proceeded simultaneously from both ends, and the two pilot tunnels met in 1928 with a stunning accuracy of the bridges within less than 1 inch of each other.
