New CollegeFilming Locations of Harry Potter
42. New CollegeIn Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the corridors of Hogwarts where everyone is wearing "Potter stinks" badges and the quad where Mad-Eye Moody turns Malfoy into a ferret are the cloisters at New College of the University of Oxford on Holywell Street. It's one of the university's oldest and most famous and successful colleges. Because its official name is the College of St. Mary, which is the same as the official name of the older Oriel College, it is commonly referred to as New College. The Bishop of Winchester, William of Wykeham, founded the college in 1379. The cloisters of New College are particularly renowned, as are the restored stained-glass windows in the ante-chapel. When the college was built, William agreed to maintain the portion of the Oxford City Wall that fell on the property. The Lord Mayor and Corporation of the City of Oxford would take a walk along the wall every three years to make sure the promise was kept, a tradition that still takes place today.
