Filming Locations of Harry Potter
Lacock AbbeyFilming Locations of Harry Potter
36. Lacock AbbeySeveral of the classrooms featured in the movies were shot at the venerable Lacock Abbey that dates back to the 13th century. The building's Sacristy became Professor Snape's potions classroom while the Warming Room housed Professor Quirrell's Defense Against the Dark Arts class, while the Chapter House is where Harry stumbles upon the Mirror of Erised. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the Chapter House is where Harry comes under suspicion after speaking parcel tongue. In the same movie, the building's Cloisters are where Harry frees Dobby. Many portions of Lacock Abbey are open for touring during spring, summer and fall. Pioneering photographer Henry Fox Talbot once lived in the house and produced the oldest known photographic negative in existence of one of the latticed windows found there in the mid 19th century.
